I changed the number date and not the day... What's the sound of one hand clapping? Cause that's me giving myself a high-five for such a derpy job. Edit: fixed for real this time?

All this hate for a simple silly character. Why can't I, at least just for once, happen to have the same opinion as the masses?

I don't hate her, per se. I just find her utterly ridiculous. :| I can't stand people that do silly things like that. Especially when they have no reason to.

JMadoc wrote:She didn't have to do ALL of that by making it look like she's having the entire crew bicker and squabble amongst each other like they were dancing on the palm of her hand.
Maddie didn't cause everyone to squabble in the kitchen, she only got every one to gather in the kitchen at Natani's request (granted, in a not-very-subtle-but-still-effective manner). If everyone instead gathered because Natani yelled for everyone, the same thing would've happened... Eric would've seen him wearing the vest, Kat would still be angry at Eric for trying to take it back, everyone would still have seen Flora's belly, etc.
BadJoke wrote:But why was she hiding in the first place? If her presence was legitimate, she could have just went into the ship showing her paper and no problem. As an official, she had no risk toward Eric, who wouldn't had any reason to said no to the Basitin diplomacy.
Same could be asked about Lynn, who also had no reason to sneak on and hide from everyone. I really want to see what's in that edict Maddie has, which will hopefully explain their behavior.

Okay, when I heard the Zelda soundbyte that y'all are talkin' about, I couldn't unhear it. But it's still not what I thought of.. Why must things in my head be stuck there forever? :P

Also, upon hearing things about the possibly fake edict, a thing happened. I had a vision of Maddie bolting while Eric is reading, running through the corridors of the ship, ducking around corners and such, with an evilish smirk-grin on her face, with thisPlease PM me if you see this text. I would like to see how many people do. playing in the backround. And it was awesome. Total spy moment, with childish awesomeness-badassery AND rock and roll.

Going mostly by memory, I think she's always been serious with other Basitin around and never quite serious otherwise.

Although it's a long shot, I might have a theory on this. What if Lynn and Maddie are playing a little game to see who can be the most sneaky? While Lynn has opted for staying completely out of sight and letting his actions go unknown, Maddie on the other hand is just pushing her luck and this permission slip is part of her ‘what-better-place-to-‘hide’-than-out-in-the-open-with-a-forged-permission-slip’ tactic.

I can tell where everyone is coming from but my god I've never seen this much concentrated hate on one character before :P

Wonder if Tom's gonna see all this and decide to make Flora see how idiotic Maddie is and listen to Eric.

I personally want to state for the record that I really don't hate Maddie. The scene that she had after presenting Laura's remains to Keith, where she betrayed her own feelings to Keith, was quite touching. It's just that her actions since coming aboard ship are so odd. Even considering her hyper nature, she seems to be constantly pushing her luck with her multiple lies, and frequent disappearances. She seems to be constantly playing a game of "catch me if you can" with everyone around her, always counting on someone turning their back just long enough, or buying just enough of her story, for her to get away. Heck, it might just work, until you lie one time too often or to the wrong person. She's so far managed to divide our group as to whether she's a threat or not, but how long can she keep it up? Does she think this is a game? If her mission is legitimate she doesn't need to do this. If it is not, she'd be better off simply going to Keith and pleading her case. She's shown her skill so far, but it's a long way to their destination. She can't keep this up forever.

Chris wrote:According to Lynn, the King sent an escort, rather than Alaric.

I too wonder why they're trying to keep such a low profile, though. Surely the King would know having them sneak on as stowaways would cause unnecessary issues, instead of just telling Eric and Keith, "As a condition of Keith's leave, these two must go with him as escorts."
Official escorts should have been known to Eric and their passage (as well as Keith's) paid for up front by the basitin government.

I'm starting to suspect her of being a spy working for the Templars and she's just putting up the cute act to hide her evil ways... you know sort of like...

Back in the days of wooden sailing ships and lousy communications, a fire on a ship at sea (outside of a lantern or stove) usually had one of two outcomes:

1) The crew and passengers got the fire extinguished really quickly
2) The ship was completely destroyed with all cargo, and most of the passengers and crew died; the survivors would endure an extended period of misery in lifeboats, with no shelter and not much in the way of provisions plus hard labor rowing and hoping to actually hit some bit of land.

(Luck factors would include good weather and the conveniently close presence of either another ship to effect a rescue or a useful amount of land.)

Now guess how tolerant and forgiving seamen were of people whose misconduct, however trivial it might have been in itself, led to a fire aboard their ship.

Maddie is a stowaway who has confessed to starting a fire on board as a result of being a stowaway. If she either had not been on board, or had come on board in the normal honest manner, there would have been no fire.

So yeah, Eric is coming down hard on her; he is entirely right to do so (although we can argue about the details). And her escaping from the brig won't have improved his attitude any.

Maddie, you may have permission from your government (assuming that isn't a forgery). But that means jack-[censored] because this ship is not owned by your government. Eric's ship is either an independent vessel or property of a human authority.

Besides, out here Keith's authority over you means more than the orders given by your King/aunt/whatever the relation is. If he decides you're a threat to the safety of the mission in any way, your [censored] is overboard faster than you can say "Sorry".

I had predicted that it was either the real deal or a forgery. Either way, it would have gotten her in deeper trouble.

I did /not/ expect a child's drawing.

Nice one Tom.
