Clever move, Alaric. Wonderful foresight. And an astute understanding of Keith's personality and feelings. Alaric knew Keith and Basidian society could no longer get along. It would be like Fallout, when the Vault Dweller returns to his vault successful and is turned away, because his time in the outside world had changed him so much that he and his society could no longer reintegrate. So Alaric establishes Keith in a perfect position, one where he holds great authority, but is not held so responsible to customs he is no longer familiar with. And one where Keith's proposed marriage to a Keidran (recall, Alaric would have almost certainly known the story of Laura from Laura well before Keith returned), would not be so freakish. Though I still suspect Alaric engineered Madelyn's contact with Keith to give the Ambassador other romantic options.

Also, that should be "helped murder," rather than "helped murdered." I've already noted it in the Ranting Board thread.

-- Incidentally --
This fits well with the Basitin mindset. A General for Strength of Body, a General for Will of Mind, a General who Masters Both, all internal to Basitin society, and now a General of the Outside World, all reporting to the King, Master of All, internal to society and outside of society.

Schrodinger, that page without speech bubbles has so much potential for panel shuffles.

Ambassador Keith Keiser, that sounds pretty good.
We have to wait and see if he would accept the offer and become an ambassador.

Alaric thought of everything didn't he?

So when foreigners arrive, destroy government property, and kill members of the local military... the ambassador of foreign affairs decides what to do with them? Not the government?

He is the government. He's specifically the General in charge of dealing with trouble-making foreigners. He interprets and executes the laws that deal with them and their actions. He can claim that the destruction of the Towers was necessary for the Basitin race, and because he was there and in on the plan, they were destroying them as his agents, and therefore, they were duly appointed agents of the Basitin government. The destruction of government property was justified. Trace is probably still deserving of a death sentence, but we just have to make sure Trace never comes back and it's never a problem.

Yeah, off the main character Tom lol. Jk, seriously though, Trace is stuck with Nora. For now anyway. He could leave at anytime, but I don't think he'll have a way back to Flora and Company for a long time.
