Now how the hell would Alabaster know Eric's middle name?
What was it the spider said to the fly...

HOoooobejeebers! OK, /now/ that general scares me! Once you get past his terrifying expressions (good job on those, Tom), the thing that really impresses me is the "After your grandfather" bit. I sure hope that Eric was just warming up and testing the general!

And Schrodinger - because he's the intelligence general! And Eric's a regular visitor. I'd imagine that every one of the rare visitors to the Basitin Isles gets a background check. Regular Visitors get the IG background check.
In the name of meaningless forum discussion!

Magically mindreading anyone?
But it is a reeeealy poor performance of Eric. He asks stuff like his name just after having failed two times?

thats what i think too some sort of magical way to read minds and that last question was a test to see if he could. so now i think he's gonna ask a question he doesn't know the answer to and i bet the general cant' answer it lol.

Really creepy. I wonder how Eric's gonna do. It's great to finally have an update, though I understand Tom's been working on the book.

Only problem is if he can read minds - why does he even need to have the competition to get the information he wants in the first place.

Although perhaps there are limitations;
1) He might need time - using the competition as nothing more than a means to buy that time.
2) Perhaps he can only read what the person is actively thinking - reading his thoughts. If hes thinking of various questions, then hes also going to be thinking about the answer himself.

Still - Mind Reading would surely require magic, but then again the Basitin generals do seem to be learning just that.

He might ask something that no-one else except him, Trace and Flora, and Nora, might know.

"What is the name of the valley where Humand and Keidran live in harmony, and love freely?"
"What's wrong? You've only lost two Pokémon. . . Come at me! Send out your legendaries! Bring in Shuckle! Use your hyper potions! The night is still young... Hurry! Hurry! Hurry! Hurry! The fun's yet to come! Hurry! Hurry!"

Errr, how exactly is this a "battle of wits"?

Yeah the middle name thing is creepy, but they are basically just asking each other trivia, wisdom and knowledge are not exactly the same thing.

In the form of a 2x4 to the back of alabastar's head, perhaps?

Eric Adrian Vaughan. That is a pretty awesome name.

I still think Eric's gonna win this duel by telling alabastar that using magic melts a Basitin's mind.

Pretty please let there be a Laura save? 2x4 to anything of Alabaster's, back of the head or groin. Anything.

I've got a whole list of questions that'd probably work, but magic melting the brain sounds more likely

Seriously though, everyone here can probably think up one random question that'd work, regardless of story plot
