The PC is inarguably the best platform for gamers, assuming you know what you're doing. The freedom to choose your control scheme is a MAJOR benefit, as well as As a good example to show you just how much freedom you have with the PC, the other day I played Halo... with a rock band guitar. Tomorrow, I'm going to play Morrowind with the drums. Because I can. And you can't stop me. See? Already I'm enjoying my PC more than you are your PS3. (Paul's enjoying his PS3s more than you too. All three of them.)
Anyway, the Xbox and the PS3 are practically identical. The same TYPES of games and what one charges initially and for its games the other makes up for with online charges. Both have essentially the same features, with the Xbox having a wider variety of support for different display types and peripherals, while the PS3 has Bluray. At least the Xbox is SLIGHTLY upgradable and customizable, whereas if you want a bigger hard drive for the PS3, you need to buy an entirely new system. I also don't like that the Sony is so extremely inconsistent with console features, like backwards compatibility. The Xbox has SLIGHTLY limited BC, but at least it's constantly expanding. The PS3 is something you either have or you don't, and it's not something you can change your mind on later. Or built in wifi. Sony just doesn't seem to think anything through at all before they put it on the market. That isn't exactly someone I want to have to rely on. Sure, Xbox 360 has the RROD issue, but have you ever read a story where their console wasn't replaced by Microsoft? Even when their warranty expired? If you yell at them enough, they obey. That's good. Sony just seems to plug their ears and go "LA LA LA LA I CAN'T HEAR YOU!" -__-
The PC has more potential, more features, and with a PC, you get far more than a gaming machine or media device. It's unlimited with what it can interface with, with people writing new drivers for the strangest things (n64 controllers and homemade touchpads not being the least of which) It's the ultimate machine. If you poke around, people are CONSTANTLY trying to "unlock" gaming consoles, and essentially turn them into PCs. The original xbox, the PSP, and many other unusual devices have been modified to run windows, linux, and other operating systems. There's obviously something to the PC that everyone seems to really want in their gaming systems that they just don't have and I can tell you for certain that it's the freedom that comes with near universal compatibility. With the money that you spend on a PS3, controllers, and four games you can EASILY build a more-than-decent dual core machine.
All that said, do a little reading, learn about computers, it'll help you alot in the long run. Build yourself one, ask for help if you need to. It's FAR better than either the PS3 OR the Xbox 360. Oh, and buy a Wii while you're at it. Seriously, at this point, you really don't have an excuse not to own one.
