OK, i ran outta gel, and i got a spare CPU. So whats a good sub i can use, considering i usually dont go out till late, and i mean really late. Like 9-10 late.

As experiment ive used:
Vaseline
Toothpaste
Hairgel
Axel Grease

So far all have worked, so anyone know anything else that could work.

a metallic glue, perhaps. Though thermal paste/grease is about 2.99 on newegg.com, and that's a sure-fire solution there.

What processor is being cooled in this add-hoc way?

Personally, I've never used a substitute, I have 3 bottle of Zalman thermal paste from the various coolers I've bought, and some Gigabyte thermal paste from the 3-D aura water cooling kit. Though they provide more than you would need for a single proc.

So... wait, are you supposed to replace the compound on your CPU at regular intervals? I've been using the same stuff mine came with since last June, but I really don't want to wrestle the heatsink off of the board. It was a pain to get it on, doing it a second time isn't really something I want to do.

Negative, sir. There is no need to replace your thermal compound with normal use. Now if you are constaly removing and reapplying your heatsink, then it will need to be reapplied each time you remount your cooler.

Though, after about 5 years, the stock cooling compound from OEM's such as Dell, HP, and Compaq, dry up and hamper cooling. But stuff like the Zalman Z-Paste I use, need no maintenance.

Good. By then I'll be on the market for a new system, so no tinkering for now. :)
