I've rifled through the first book, a collection of three stories which seem to be set in the mid-70s. It's well-written and drawn, and although I have some issue with the guy;s depiction of faith, he's also writing noir fiction about a time when basically every moral panic was caused by bible-belters. I feel like my parents would understand these more than I do.avwolf wrote:Blacksad is pretty straightforward detective stories in a classic noir style. The art is really great and stories are well told. (I own the hardcover collection.) It's definitely more accurate to call it "anthro noir" than "furry noir" because the characters are very much animal people in the sense that they are just like ordinary human people, but drawn as animals which represent their character traits; they're not "furry" characters in the way that we commonly consider furries.Bellhead wrote:What's that about? It's really good, and absolutely worth finding. Though I should note, it's not a kid's book: there's some blood and adult situations, the stories I remember were about white supremacists lynching people and about the "red scare" when US Senator McCarthy was making a blacklist of people who had "suspected" Communist ties.

Re: Avatar Showcase
That's probably a fair assessment. Stands for me as much as it does for you, frankly; I know that I find the McCarthism story particularly hard to relate to. Though I stand by my glowing recommendation. Reading and understanding works of and from the past helps us understand the present and, as C.S. Lewis once declared, frees us from "chronological snobbery".Myperson54 wrote:I've rifled through the first book, a collection of three stories which seem to be set in the mid-70s. That I am driving us further afield of topic, however, and for that I apologize. Please, carry on.

Actually, it is "Dirty Fred, the captain" from a very entertaining novel of P. Howard Unfortunately there is no English translation for it, which is a very sad thingTheWMM wrote:Looks like a more sinister version of Captain Haddock from Tintin .
EDIT: HEY! I did find an English version eventually! I strongly recommend to read it (or at least the prologue)

Re: Avatar Showcase
An old friend whom I sadly haven't been in contact with for years created my current avatar for me. I think it's quite nice. I had to shrink it down a bit (normal size is 604x483) to make it fit.
Sometimes, I wish I could art.

A very Dapper Bumblebee if I might add.
I know the url is linked to my Photobucket, but the picture is credited towards, I believe, SulferSpoon. I am unsure where the original picture is that I received this from.

There's a whole album where this came from. Plenty of wolves and foxes, among others...even a lynx *winks at Tesla*
